• I would tell mum that when I grow up, I wanted to be a rockstar. She would smile and say, “Oh sweetie, you can’t do both” and then giggle, in spite of my understanding of the joke.

  • This is the moment to which everything was building up to. All those swings and misses. All the days of practice. All the times I wanted to give up but didn’t. Because this was my moment. And it was worth it.

  • I'll never forget the first time I saw the ocean. We drove for 2 days and had the best conversations along the way. Did you know that you can smell the ocean before you can see it?

MORTIMER PICKENS is a series that helps you see the world through the eyes of a child and with the wisdom of an adult. These are my memories and I’m grateful to share them with you. These books are written in the perspective of 10-year-old Mortimer, who at times, has some silly and yet profound insight to share.

“Mortimer Pickens and my FAVOURITE Things” talks about paying attention and learning to appreciate the little moments. From tall grass between your toes, to the smell of the ocean. These small moments can create big memories.
